Jason Pincock, CEO of DynaLIFEDX, joined us recently for a webinar on the topic of how to develop an empowered culture around analytics. He walked us through DynaLIFEDX‘s journey from using analytics simply as a report generator or data function, to leveraging analytics to empower the organization, changing behavior on the front lines and becoming part of the everyday process in terms of pushing excellence.
DynaLIFEDX had always done clinical analytics around quality and test quantity, but was looking to take their analytics to the next level. Like most organizations, they were accustomed to pulling data for a previous period and looking for trends. But they began to wonder what would happen if they started looking prospectively, rather than just historically. “We started getting more and more comfortable with the fact that we could do more than just count tests and monitor wait times, and we could do more than just look backwards,” Pincock said.
This curiousity led the team at DynaLIFEDX to begin using data to take predictive measures in every part of the laboratory, looking at things like monitoring histology slides for technical quality, and determining the number of samples that had properly completed requisitions. “We started to play with all the different levels of data that we could find in our various systems. We have an LIS and lots of middleware, and our organization has used Viewics to provide an umbrella layer that allows us to pull analytics from various sources and slice and dice them across all of our systems,” Pincock said. “That has been a very effective tool because it allows us to bring in data from financial sources, payroll sources, and sources related to our lab information system. As a result, we’re starting to get more useful data and we’re starting to solve more tactical problems every day.”
