Frequently Asked Questions about Greetings
- Why do I see two installations running?
- This is normal. Do not cancel either one or your installation will fail.
- Why does StarFX Greetings take so long to install?
- The installation program downloads all of the program files during your first installation of a StarFX Greeting. Most of these files only need to be downloaded once, so new cards will take much less time to install. In the future, whenever an update is made to the application it will automatically download when you install a new card.
- When I change the audio settings on the Record page in StarFX Greetings, I don’t hear a difference, why not?
- The audio settings do affect the levels, but you will not hear the change during recording. If you play your recording back, you will hear the new audio levels.
- Why do I get an error message when I close the video settings window in StarFX Greetings?
- This happens occasionally. StarFX Greetings should continue to work without any problems. If it does not continue to display video, please reboot your computer. This is a known bug and should be corrected in a future version.
- What video formats are supported by StarFX Greetings?
- StarFX Greetings supports RGB 24, YUV12, and I420 formats.
- What do I need to view StarFX Greetings cards on the web?
- Depending on who sent you the card, you may need Microsoft’s Windows Media Player 7, RealNetworks RealPlayer 8, or nothing at all. The e-mail notification the sender and recipient receive details what is needed to view the StarFX Greeting.
- How long do my StarFX Greetings cards stay available for viewing?
- Your confirmation e-mail will tell you how long. The length of time these cards are saved depends on the particular agreement with our partners. The standard time is 10 days.
- Why do I see flashing on the e-mail information screen in StarFX Greetings?
- This is a known issue with StarFX Greetings and we are working to correct it. In the meantime, it does not affect the functionality of the software in any way.
- How do I schedule my StarFX Greetings card to be delivered at a future date?
- To delay the delivery of your card, click on Schedule Delivery from the Preview and Send screen. Select delayed and choose the date you would like your card delivered.
- Do I have to record the maximum time StarFX Greetings allows in my video?
- No, you do not. You may press Stop at any time during your recording. However, any special effects that take place after you press Stop will not be shown in your card.
- When I view my StarFX Greetings card on the web, the background image is corrupted and/or the video is not playing, why is this?
- The most likely cause of this is using WinGate as a firewall or internet connection sharing tool. There is a known issue with this product and StarFX Greetings. Try sending a card from a computer not behind a firewall and it should work fine.
- Why can't I view my StarFX Greetings card using Netscape Navigator?
- Greetings cards may not display correctly using Netscape. Please view your cards using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player 7. Internet Explorer 5.5 can be downloaded at this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/ie55sp1.htm
- Why can't I hear myself talking when I play back my StarFX Greeting?
- There are several possible causes for this.
- First and foremost, you must have a microphone and it must work. You can use a Sound Recorder application to verify it.
- Second, your microphone volume is set too low. Adjust the Mic Record Level by selecting Volume from the Step 1: Record Your Message screen.
- If this doesn't correct the the problem, your microphone may not be getting selected by StarFX Greetings. This is a known issue with the Creative Soundblaster PCI 128 soundcards and possibly others. To enable your microphone, open your volume settings from the taskbar (click on the speaker icon located by your clock) and select your microphone. You may have to select options/properties and click on recording to get your microphone settings to display.
Now re-record your StarFX Greeting and check the audio levels.
- What operating systems does StarFX Greetings support?
- Currently Windows 98, Windows 98se, Windows Me, and Windows 2000 are supported. StarFX Greetings is not formally supported for Windows 95 and may or may not work.
- Why doesn’t my camera work with StarFX Greetings?
- Your camera could be using an unsupported color format or, something may be wrong with your camera. Check all of your camera connections and see our system requirements guidelines.
